The 1998 KROQ Annual Almost Acoustic Christmas Review By: Hoser hoser@netphoria.org http://hoserland.simplenet.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got to the Shrine around 4:10 (the concert was supposed to start at 6:30). So me and my friend walked around the place. I was supposed to met some amspers over there...but i never did...sorry....So anyway i went around to the other side. Where the bands go into their parking lot. When i got there some guy pointed out the car that Billy came in. It was a black Lincoln Towncar. So i'm waiting there and then Semisonic came in, in one car. So i'm waiting some more...and then someone asked if that was Billy...and then another guy said yeah. And everyone got excited. I turned around and saw him on the passenger side smiling, and trying to He was wearing a black bucket and seemed like all black. He was riding in a chrysler convertible it was a tan color. The car flied by really fast. So after that we stayed there for a little while, and then went to the front. The line started to form. So we just got in line. It took a while to get in, the only SP shirt they were selling there was the Adore cover and the back was them in the field that was $20. So we go to our seats they were kind of high. but we had a good view of the stage. So Everlast came on first. I was trying to amuse myself during them. Semisonic I enjoyed them. Soul Coughing i was playing with my lighter this time nothing else to do. Cake came next. I really enjoyed this band. the whole audience was into them and so was I. Next was Goo Goo Dolls I'm not gonna talk about them...cause i was off in my own little world when they were on. Brain Setzer Orchestra was next. I stood up for them. They were really cool....he should really higher some swing dancers. Garbage was on next. I really got into them First time i saw them and I was waiting for this moment. And they proved to be the band i thought they were. They played really kick ass songs...Most of them were singles....I wonder if KROQ had something to do with that. And now what you are really waiting for. So this chick with i think it was like pink are came out. And introduce Billy. Song #1: This was a new song. I didnt hear some of the songs. Cause there were song chicks that were screaming "Billy I Love You". It seemed kind of not like a pumpkins song But when you first hear them they never do. Song #2: Today- great as usual nothing different to it- the touring keyboardist which i just for got his name came out and played during this song. On a grand piano. Song #3: To Sheila- lets play it at high speed- that was it kind of sounded like. If you play Adore vinyl fast that was it kind of sounds like.....i think it was way to fast...but at least it was different Song #4: 1979- beginning sounded like when he played on KROQ back in Jan 1996. I think the real audio file of that still works. The song exactly like that. He didn't do the ending like he did during the Adore tour. Song #5: Rotten Apples- never expected this song to ever be played.. Thing unusual about how the song was played Song #6: Perfect- sounded like other performances that he did during the adore tour. i dont think he said "just you and me" towards the end Song #7: Ava Adore- this was a trip. when the songs goes "we must never be apart" the first time was slow and low and then the 2nd time was loud. during the "in you part" he added more lines...i remember "black flowers" Song #8: New Song- this song wasnt good...but the lyrics were creative....thats about it Song #9: Shame-nothing new here...like the viper room Song #10: Muzzle- never thought this would be played acoustic. played very good and i guess it seemed like if it was a demo..(is there a demo of muzzle available?) after this song billy put down his guitar. waved to people and went to the right of the stage he picked up his bucket hat tossed it up and caught it on his head....the crowed kept cheering. He came back on Song #11: Disarm- as soon as this song started and up roar from the crowd. i nothing special from this performance of disarm except for the fact it was disarm and acoustic. after this I had to sit down.cause my legs were really hurting this one guy...that i heard got beat up by Leonardo De Carpeo (you know Romeo- the blond sissy) so then depeche mode came on everyone in the crowd was standing up except for me...cause i was in pain. So as soon as they left the stage the crowd kept on cheering. Depeche Mode came back on with Billy. Song #12- Never Let Me Down (Again)- Billy sang like the 1st part of the song then Dave finished it off...and billy kept on playing guitar. THE END was that shitty?
