A Profile on Moonkids, By Moonkids

Whois Moonkids? Moonkids is a character I played. The audience was the online
Smashing Pumpkins fans. In my own words, Moonkids had a conscience, but
rationalized certain acts and remarks, even though, to the normal mind, what
was being done by Moonkids, was very inhuman and very childish.

I suppose the first true arrival of the Moonkids character, was when I started
a thread on alt.music.smash-pumpkins entitled, "starla.org". In the thread, I
argued, that starla.org was a monopoly of Smashing Pumpkins sites. Me and this
other guy, were the subjects of the threat, we were on the same ISP, so the
posting was fast and furious. The thread grew to something like 50+ posts
within a couple hours, just between me and him. My arguement was utter BS, but
I suppose my intent was to get under people's skins. Carve an identity with a
dull spoon.

Months later, the individual who I had the usenet "post war" with, removed his
acclaimed his website from the WWW, spilled his guts about a rare box set and
generally, left the Pumpkins scene.

Moonkids also had a website. It was thru this website, that he posted images
that were givent o him, of Billy Corgan's house. Moonkids received the
pictures from an aol account. sunaitis@aol.com, however, the account did not
belong to Aneta Sunaitis. I do know who owned the account, and it was not
Aneta.

After Moonkids posted the images of Billy's house on my webpage, heated
discussion took place on alt.music.smash-pumpkins over the morality of the
act. Moonkids knew all along that it was an invasion of privacy, but, the
point was not to remain quiet and not have an identity. The point was to
create an identity and obviously, its easier to be Charles Manson, than it is
to be Ghandi.

Months later, Moonkids would receive an email from Suzi Forzano, of The
Pumpkins former management company, Q Prime. The email asked me to take the
pictures down from my website. Moonkids decided not to take the pictures down,
and furthermore, Moonkids decided to post the email she sent on the Moonkids
webpage, even though she specifically told me not to give out her address and
not tell anyone about her email.

While all this was going on, word reached Moonkids about some obscure mashed
potatoes boxset which contained 5 cds of rare material. So, Moonkids decided
to start a witchhunt for this item, along with the 666 video bootleg. A lot
Moonkids' actions mirror the senselessness found in the movie, A Clock Work
Orange.

Months later, the 666 video bootleg, as a direct result of Moonkids' witch
hunt would be released to the Pumpkins community. It would take a year for
some of the songs from the Mashed Potatoes boxset to be stolen and then
released to the Pumpkins community. The songs from the Mashed Potatoes boxset,
did not come from the box set per se, but rather from a cassette tape that a
women from Chicago gave to a kid, whom she met at the mall of america in
Minnesota.

Moonkids can also lay claim to having hacked Billy Corgan's AOL account,
gaining access to all his personal information, including his email. Numerous
media reported this event, including rocktropolis [now offline] and a bunch of
radio stations in the USA. Billy did not use the Internet a lot back then. He
only had a few emails, and only had one Instant Message buddy. After chatting
on his account, reading the days news, for a couple weeks, I decided that the
account was useless to me, and posted screen shots of his account on
alt.music.smash-pumpkins.

If you read the rocktropolis story, it mentioned that Courtney Love and her
assistant, ended up with hacked computers. This is true, and I can lay claim
to both of these incidences. But, that's not all, because the article also
mentioned that Billy's friends were "in a panic", which brings me to..

While on Billy's AOL account, I receive an email from Aneta Sunaitis. She just
went on about her new marriage and how she wanted Billy to attend. I send an
email back to her, stating that I'm in the studio working on the album and
that I have hired someone to develop an interactive portion to the new adore
cd. I attach a file of a trojan horse for her windows system, which I inform
her, is actually something thats going to be on the new cd. The great thing
about AOL software, is that you can't easily tell the path nor the messsage id
of the email that was just sent to you. And of course, AOLers, in general are
not that bright.

So anyways, Aneta ended up with a comprimised computer, with all her files
accessible to Moonkids. Onica, Courtney's assistant, ended up with the same
trojan horse on her computer, lets talk about this..

I literatly downloaded every non-system file on Onica's computer. I had
hundreads of megs of stuff to sort through, including all her chats with
Courtney Love and all her email from 1995 onward. I found it very satisfying
being on Onica's computer.

About a month later, Moonkids would decide to post all her files, slowly, on
usenet and on the WWW. The thing you have to realize about Onica, is that the
Internet and specfically usenet, is her life. She was very much a hated
character amongst Pumpkins fans. Some of the more respected members of the
Smashing Pumpkins community even dispised her. I would have to say, that
posting Onica's files on usenet was one of the most satisfying events Moonkids
has ever felt. 

The result of my actions against Onica, proved very grim. Onica decided to
leave the Pumpkins community and basically, no one ever hears from her. It's
very fitting that the results of my phone calls to her apartment, result in no
one answering. Very poetic.

As for Courtney Love's computer, and all her files. Well, I only released a
few files to the general public. I made a trade of sorts, with some a reporter
from New York, who had a personal interest in Miss Love. Its amazing, because,
you hear of people getting killed because of what they know about Courtney and
Kurt.

There is a lot of other stuff that I took part in. Its really the tip of the
ice berg. A few people, would be incriminated however. God forbid, another
Moonkids appears, that begins a new witchhunt.

In closing, ill just say, that it's all a game to me. Characters, actions,
revenge, power, etc. No game ever ends, and there are no winners or losers,
you can't divide anything in life into two categories. As Genesis P Orridge
says, the binary view of life is going to be abolished.

Someone on usenet once said, that Moonkids does not live, but merely exists.
Call me disenchanted, but I love to exist.
